Managed swithes

The FSW-848P-6SFP+ switch is a high-density Layer 2+ switching solution specifically engineered for aggregation and secondary distribution segments within complex network architectures. The hardware architecture is optimized for critical multicast traffic management, ensuring peak efficiency in the delivery of carrier-grade IPTV services sourced from professional Headend systems such as 3DG-FLEX and GALAXYA. Advanced IGMP Snooping integration enables dynamic traffic segmentation, preventing intra-VLAN packet flooding and ensuring stream integrity.

The device's hardware configuration features 48 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces with support for IEEE 802.3af/at (PoE/PoE+) standards, providing a total PoE Power Budget of 370W for the direct power supply of high-consumption network equipment. These ports are complemented by 6 x 10Gbps SFP+ slots dedicated exclusively to high-bandwidth uplink functions or hardware stacking implementation. This stacking capability, restricted to devices within the same series, allows for centralized logical management via a single IP address, drastically simplifying routine maintenance operations and enhancing the overall resilience of the network backbone.

Technical chars

  • Native Multicast/IGMP Snooping support

  • Power budget: 370W

Layer 2 Multicast Architecture

Layer 2 Optimization and Multicast Management

  • IGMP Snooping (v1/v2/v3): Performs Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) of control messages to dynamically generate the Multicast Forwarding Table (MFT). On this high-density architecture, it prevents intra-VLAN flooding by isolating streams exclusively to interfaces with an active Join Report, preserving access bandwidth and reducing computational overhead on client devices.

  • IGMP Fast Leave: Enables immediate forwarding termination upon detection of a Leave message, bypassing standard query response intervals. This function is critical for optimizing convergence times during channel switching (zapping) in high-density networks and preventing bandwidth spikes that cause jitter or pixel blocking.

  • MVR (Multicast VLAN Registration): Optimized for large-scale Multi-tenant/Hospitality scenarios. It allows sharing a single Multicast Source VLAN (e.g., from a 3DG-FLEX headend) across multiple users, eliminating flow duplication in the backbone while maintaining unicast traffic isolation.

Access Control (ACL) and Security

  • IGMP Filter: Granular per-port policies that restrict subscriptions to specific Multicast Group IPs. It ensures content security and protects the switch's Control Plane from saturation and DoS attacks based on IGMP flooding.

  • Transparent Pass-through: A bypass mode for the IGMP protocol on specific VLANs or interfaces, allowing video traffic to transit as native broadcast within the Layer 2 domain.

  • Hardware Protection & Storm Control: Architecture featuring hierarchical scheduling and mechanisms for the automatic suppression of anomalous Broadcast, Multicast, and Unknown Unicast traffic. It supports multi-level defense against DoS attacks and RBAC (Role-Based Access Control) for secure CLI management.

QoS Policies and Performance

  • Bandwidth Control: Traffic management via CAR (Committed Access Rate) on a per-port or per-flow basis to deliver guaranteed bandwidth, essential for the simultaneous management of 48 PoE endpoints.

  • Scheduling Algorithms: Advanced hardware queue management using SP (Strict Priority), WRR (Weighted Round Robin), or hybrid SP+WRR configurations for real-time traffic prioritization.
