SIMPLIFICATION OF THE SYSTEM

Passive GPON fiber optic distribution is very advantageous firstly because it allows for an important simplification of the system.

The floor or zone racks are replaced by passive optical boxes, which can also be installed in the false ceiling, where the splitters are inserted for the horizontal distribution of the fibers up to the room to be served. In this way:

• there is no need to provide space for the technical compartments
• the volumes occupied by cables are reduced
• the size of the flush channels is significantly reduced.

With the GPON system, less materials are used:

• up to 60% less copper cable
• drastic reduction in the number of racks
• no active network devices on the floors

Using passive devices, the GPON system allows the reduction of energy consumption, also as regards the refrigeration of the devices.

The reduction of materials and the simplicity of laying the optical fiber make it possible to significantly reduce the times required for installation.

The use of passive devices reduces the need for maintenance a lot. The GPON structure also makes it possible to easily resolve any malfunctions, maintaining system functionality and intervening exclusively on the device concerned.
